Please leave a frozen bottle of water in or near your mailbox on hot days for your mail delivery person. It gets really hot in those little white mail trucks because they have no air conditioning. Help keep them hydrated!
Volunteer fire departments are in need of water. Residents in the community and businesses are asked to donate bottled water. The firefighters at volunteer fire departments are not paid. Water is a big necessity because the risk of dehydration can affect firefighters while working in extreme heat.
Saturday, August 24 - Fuel the Fire Fighters Fundraiser. Get that boat gassed up and head over to The Harbor Restaurant on Richland-Chambers Lake starting at 9:30 am. There will be some great items in the silent auction and some tasty cakes in the live auction. It's going to be a great day to help support our local volunteer departments. Please remember: No alcohol can be brought into the restaurant or onto The Harbor Restaurant property during this event, per TABC rules.

Friday, September 6 - Navarro County and the City of Corsicana will hold a Tire Disposal Event from 8 am to 12 pm at the Navarro County Youth Expo, 4021 W. State Hwy. 22. You must be a Navarro County resident to dump tires at the event. Residents must provide identification to validate county or city residence. All loads must be firmly secured to trucks/ trailers according to TCEQ regulations. FEES: $1 per passenger tire, $10 per 18 wheeler tire, $10 per tractor tire. Saturday, September 7 - 21st Annual Corsicana Airsho, the "Best Little Airshow in Texas", at Corsicana Municipal Airport. Gates open at 8:30 am. Rides will be available in several Warbirds on Friday and Saturday. Admission is $10 per person or $20 per carload. Free admission for veterans, military personel and their families. Saturday, September 7 - Annual 9/11 Cookoff at The American Legion Post 22, 632 N. Beaton, in remembrance of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2011. Entry fees: $25 for brisket, $10 for pulled pork, and $10 half chicken. First, second, and third place trophies will be awarded. Entry fee for both beans and chili is $10. The prize will be a jackpot. All food must be cooked onsight. After the cookoff, all remaining food should be donated to The American Legion so they can sell plates. If you have an unserviceable US, state, M.I.A., or military flag, bring it to the American Legion, 632 N. Beaton St. If the post is closed, you can place the flag in a plastic bag and hang it on the front door. After 2 pm daily, bring it inside. If you can not afford a new US flag, the American Legion will replace your unserviceable US flag with a new US Flag. Honor Flight DFW is a 501c(3) non-profit organization that is committed to flying veterans, at no cost to the veteran, round trip to Washington, DC with a one night stay, to see the WW II Memorial and other monuments in the Washington area. They will fly any veteran of a War era since WW II, but priority is for WW II and terminally ill veterans. They have a "guardian" assigned to each veteran to assist him or her during the trip and a volunteer medical staff for each flight. Honor Flight DFW pays for the cost for the veteran and all others pay their own expenses. For more information about this organization and flight schedules, visit www.honorflightdfw.org. This is one way for us to honor our veterans while we still have them around.

The Corsicana Animal Shelter is in need of dog food, such as Pedigree (adult and small breed), Kibbles N Bits Original Flavor (adult and small breed, small bites), and Purina Smart Blend dog food. Tehuacana Baptist Church in Limestone county sponsors a Gospel/Bluegrass/Country music night the second Friday of each month starting at approximately 6 pm., and goes until the last singer gives up and goes home (about 10 pm). Just bring those old phones by their office on Bus. 45 across from the old hat factory any morning from 9-11 M-F or drop them off at Corley Funeral Home. The phones will be bundled and forwarded them to a company that refurbishes them and sends then to the troops to use.
